Bethesda, Maryland, The far-reaching impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has prompted the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to expand the scope of the NIH Genetic Testing Registry® (GTR®) to include microbe tests (initially focusing on molecular tests) to detect the SARS-CoV-2 virus and serology tests to detect viral antigens and antibodies to the virus. GTR® will also maintain up-to-date information and available guidelines from authoritative sources about these tests, testing strategies, and treatment options so clinicians can easily access them. This effort attempts to flatten the curve of the pandemic by sharing the data on these tests and making orderable tests easily available by health providers at the point of care. The need for a central resource for microbe tests other than SARS-CoV-2 has become increasingly evident; GTR® now accepts registration of all molecular and serology microbe tests.   To support these efforts, Computercraft is seeking a new member of the team to contribute to data-sharing efforts for clinicians and researchers in molecular pathology. The qualified candidate will use his or her expertise in microbiology and molecular and serologic methodologies to advance the GTR® ( https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/gtr/ ) and the National Center for Biotechnology Information’s (NCBI’s) Medical Genetics and Human Variation Program. More information on these resources can be found at https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/guide/genetics-medicine/ . This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the only centralized and comprehensive resource for orderable microbe tests that impact human health and disease.   The curator will be responsible for processing tests submitted to the GTR, such as microbe-specific molecular tests; panels to identify pathogens so treatment can be tailored to manage the infection; immunologic tests to detect antibodies to a pathogen and antigens of the pathogen; tests to assess viral load to monitor disease progression; and pharmacogenetic tests for any associated drug treatments.   The NCBI is part of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) at NIH. NCBI, one of the 400 most-visited websites in the world, is the premier biomedical center, hosting over 4 million daily users in search of clinical, genetic, and other information. At NCBI, your work can contribute to flattening the curve of the COVID-19 pandemic.   This is a full-time position working on site at NCBI, NIH, in Bethesda, Maryland.   Job Responsibilities Evaluate and process submissions to GTR® Communicate with submitters to ensure accurate representation of their data Engage with customers by email, phone, video conferencing, and in person Collaborate with the team, including curatorial and technical development staff Engage with users and educate them by contributing to public documentation Engage in community outreach (e.g., write abstracts, prepare posters and presentations, write articles to be published in professional journals, identify ways to promote NCBI resources, analyze usage data, identify ways to increase reach) Curate data to ensure accurate representation of microbes, phenotypes, and tests and maintain internal documentation Maintain an up-to-date list of guidelines including laboratory practices, recommended testing strategies, and treatment options    Required Skills/Experience M.S. or Ph.D. in molecular microbiology, pathology, or genetics Strong logic, problem-solving, and organizational skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent general computing skills, including familiarity with spreadsheets Ability to work both independently and as part of a team Ability to balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced and dynamic environment Ability to adhere to established procedures A detail-oriented perspective A strong desire to support public scientific projects Avid interest in data sharing and community education   Desired Skills/Experience Laboratory experience, preferably in microbiology, pathology, or genetics Understanding the current "state of affairs" in the molecular pathology community, including customer roles and needs from the clinic to testing laboratories   To apply for this position or learn about other Computercraft job opportunities, please visit the Careers section of our website: https://www.computercraft-usa.com/ .
